KETAV President Volkan Yorulmaz, who evaluated the statements about the main reason for the low hotel occupancy being the daily, weekly, and monthly rentals for vacation purposes, also emphasized that this situation creates significant challenges for the industry.
He stated, "I believe the issue of daily, weekly, and monthly home rentals is somewhat exaggerated. We need to sit down and examine the mathematics behind it. We should really analyze how many houses are available for this purpose, how they are actually being rented, and what impact it has on the hotel industry. I don't want to make speculative claims at the moment, but my initial impression is that this issue is being blown out of proportion. In Antalya, we have around 800,000 to 900,000 beds. We are talking about approximately 900,000 beds with official permits from the Ministry and the municipality. Trying to attribute the decline in all of Antalya's tourism or the hotel's low occupancy to the rental of 40,000 to 50,000 homes in that area, I believe, would be incorrect."
