In March 2024, the highest hotel occupancy rates in the Mediterranean were recorded in Spain at 56 percent, followed by Italy at 46 percent and France at 45 percent.

According to the Tourism Databank's analysis, in March 2024, the highest average net hotel occupancy rates within competing destinations in the Mediterranean were recorded in Spain at 56 perecnt. Italy and France to Spain with figures 46 percent and 45 percent respectively. These countries saw an average increase in occupancy of 4 percentage points. Türkiye achieved a slight decline with 32 percent occupancy, making it and Greece the two countries with the lowest occupancy rates.

Spain also led among Mediterranean basin countries in total overnight stays.

In the most tourist-receiving destinations in the Mediterranean, Spain led in total overnight stays in facilities during the first quarter of 2024 with 75.6 million, while Türkiye ranked fourth with 26.4 million.

In the region, for both domestic and foreign overnight stays in hotels, holiday and other short-term accommodations, campgrounds, amusement vehicle parks, and caravan parks, Spain, Italy, Türkiye, and Greece saw growth of approximately 5 percent, 12 percent, 3 percent, and 1.5 percent respectively during the January-March 2024 period. France recorded an increase of approximately 2 percent.

What about tourist overnight stays?

Regarding foreign tourist overnight stays, Spain saw a 7 percent increase, Italy 20 percent, France 9 percent, and Greece 3 percent, while Türkiye recorded an increase of around 5 percent.
